What is an attribute in PIM?
A product attribute in a PIM refers to a characteristic or property that describes a product. It provides detailed information about the product, such as its features, specifications, or other relevant data points. Product attributes are essential for organizing, categorizing, and effectively managing product information within the PIM.
How to create an Attribute?
To create an attribute in the PIM, follow these steps:
Access the PIM Settings section.
Locate and select the "Attributes" option. This will take you to the attributes management page.
On the attributes management page, look for the "+ Create Attribute" button.
A form will appear, prompting you to fill in the relevant details for the new attribute.
"Code": Enter a unique code that will be used to identify the attribute. This code should be concise and descriptive.
"Type": Select the appropriate data type for the attribute. This could be text, number, boolean, date, or other options depending on the PIM.
"Group": Choose the attribute group to which the new attribute should belong. Attribute groups help organize and categorize attributes within the system. Please refer to the available attribute groups and select the most suitable one for your attribute.
“Type”, “Value Per Locale”, ”Value Per Channel” and “Locale Specific” settings can be only set during the initial creation of the attribute. These settings cannot be edited later on the attribute.
Finally, click on the "Save" button to create the attribute.
The attribute will now be created and added to the attribute list in the PIM, ready for use in managing your product data.
What is an Attribute Group in PIM?
An Attribute Group is used to group the attributes. Some attributes can be grouped according to their usage types: E.g. Main attributes, Shipping information attributes, ERP attributes, Dimensions etc.
One purpose of creating an attribute group can be to add a group of attributes to an attribute family. It is necessary to add attributes to the related families to display them in the product edit/create screen.
Another purpose of the attribute groups is to authorize users to edit only related attributes of the product. Users from the different departments of the organization can be authorized accordingly. E.g Marketing users only edit marketing related product attributes, Finance department might only edit the price related attributes etc.
